I need inspiration

How are you guys doing?

I think I wrote too much yesterday...I ended up writing about 2500 words to make up for not really writing the day before and now I feel empty. I don't feel like I have any inspiration left (at least for the morning).
I've been sitting here with my bagel and coffee for the last hour and I think I managed to write about 200 words...if I keep up this speed I'll be here for another 7 hours (which is so not going to happen).

What do you guys do for inspiration?

Do you go for a walk?

Do you exercise?

Do you veg out on the couch watching everything the CW has on offer (and yes, I do believe that a Vampire Diaries/Gossip Girl/Hellcats marathon cures a lot of things)?

I would love to hear what you normally do!

  1. I just walked over to my colleague's office and begged for some chocolate (after my first 500 words this week). He gave me some chocolate, said what a great job I am doing, and asked me a Python question that I was actually able to answer. Full of energy back to my own office :). Now I just hit the 1001 and will probably go home.

But usually, I am definitely a take-a-break-in-front-of-the-TV person. But I must admit that this usually does not work for inspiration (even though I agree it can cure many, many things, especially Big Bang Theory and True Blood) or even for getting back to work...

Going for a walk sometimes works and what ALWAYS works for me is coffee... I love my nespresso machine. Maybe I should bring it to the office for the rest of the month.. Hmm.

Hang in there! And we should all let "If the muse is late for work, start without her" be our motto :). Just start writing gibberish. It will come to you. No one said anything about writing GOOD stuff...

  2. Just to try if it really works, before I go home...

  3. Starting with writing gibberish worked for me, too, yesterday - the day before I got like 30 words written (which is also due to the fact that something else crops up every ten minutes here at the office, it's just a madhouse at the moment).

Yesterday I stayed home though and finally overcame my block. It ended up being only about 500 words and a lot of reading, but still.

Coffee always works for me too:
"As long as there was coffee in the world, how bad could things be?" — Cassandra Clare.

I also like to read online comics (phdcomics, xkcd) for procrastination / inspiration purposes ;-)

Keep writing with or without the muse!

  6. :) let me tell you...the bagel and the coffee are as amazing as they look...probably even better than what they look...I was pretty much off all caffeine for nearly 4 weeks before coming to Austin and I had a coffee at Cafe Medici...I have been back twice a day since Sunday....apart from today it's not even for the caffeine but it's pretty much one of the nicest coffees I've ever had...perhaps the one at the Hanseatica in Tübingen is as nice...but I haven't been there in too long...ah....I've got this super nice mental image of having a Butterbrezel with a Cappuccino on my mind...hmmmm

  7. I haven't been to Hanseatica in ages. I will do this week! I swear! I love it there. I used to go all the time. Il dolce is also very nice and they have the best Italian cake I have ever had... Hmm, maybe I'll manage to coffee events this week :) (on top of everything!)
